I’m so excited to share Christy and Dave’s wedding day at Rotary Park, Ketchum, Idaho with you! I must say that these two are dear friends of mine so when they asked me to photograph their day, I was beyond thrilled to say yes! We were planning for over a year and then came March 2020. Their September wedding ceremony was skillfully orchestrated in the times of Covid, and every moment of their planning paid off with a beautiful ceremony and celebration in a local park. These two, like many who were engaged pre=pandemic, didn’t know if they would keep their fall wedding date but opted to stick with the plan in their own style. They had a sweet outdoor ceremony surrounded by a forest of aspens, evergreens and close friends and family. And their sweetly quiet first look was at the property where Christy, her family and bridesmaids all got ready together.
We took their engagement photos earlier in the summer in a windy meadow, but the hour was FILLED with laughter and these two couldn’t keep straight faces whenever they caught eyes. I loved every second of watching them together!
The photography for their wedding day started as I popped over to the wedding venue as friends Josiah and Peter built their arch for the ceremony. Then I met Dave, his family and groomsmen for some portraits and fun candids of the guys ‘icing’ Dave while his parents helped him get ready. After that it was time to see the girls and I met the ladies to document all the fun of prepping Christy! After she was ready for the first look we put Dave in position. When they first saw each other they melted. Tears of love for days and Dave later told me he thought he might have ‘ugly cried’ but I assured him that he ‘beauty cried’ and it was a beautiful intimate moment they’ll have forever. Christy had her best friends and family as her party, and Dave surrounded himself with his best mates.
And the details! They really thought of everything and made each piece special by involving family and friends. The napkins shared their funny relationship facts like when “Christy had a friend throw a party to get Dave to notice her. This party was referred to as ‘Operation Dave.’” The guest book was a custom painting of Christy, Dave and their two kittens. Flowers were grown locally by a florist friend, Wild Flora Farm. They love to ski and each table was named after a ski run on our local mountain, Baldy. Signage was finished with elegant calligraphy by friend Meredith. Cake pops glittered on tiered trays and I’d been waiting for them for a year ;) Every single piece was SPECIAL!
She arrived to the venue in her grandfather's vintage green Army Jeep and was driven by her dad, with her best friend Laura in the backseat. The ceremony was officiated by another close friend Tom West, and Christy walked down the aisle with her dad.
After the ceremony we had family portraits, a beautiful dinner and dancing under the stars. At sunset we snuck off to the riverbank for their portraits. It was fire season so there was smoke in the air which made for some gentle sunset haze. I’m so happy they decided to get married on their original date and it was an honor to document it all. They have such a fun and doting connection and I know they are perfect partners.
Christy and Dave, thank you so much for having me as your photographer! I love love you guys and so happy I was able to capture all of this for you! Cheers!
